Chimney Rock Elevage Stag’s Leap District 2012 Napa Valley Estate Grown

The story of Chimney Rock is entwined with the story of Napa Valley’s Stags Leap District, home to some of the most elegant Cabernet Sauvignon produced on American soil. Elevage, an evocative mélange of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Petit Verdot, stands among legends and serves as an artistic portrait of the vintage at the Chimney Rock estate each year. Named for the French team referring to the maturation period of the wine between fermentation and bottling, this important blend evokes finesse and complexity, depth and dimension, and truly highlights the singular nature of the Stags Leap District. The 2012 vintage brought us near perfect conditions for grape growing in Stags Leap District. Elevage is always a principal story teller of vintage since it incorporates several varieties grown on our estate.  This vintage Elevage is a classic:  lush, perfectly balanced and rich, it is a wine that can be consumed young or can be aged for 15 to 20 years

91+  The well-known Proprietary Red Blend, the 2012 Elevage (57% Merlot, 35% Cabernet Sauvignon and 8% Petit Verdot) exhibits an opaque ruby/purple color along with a beautiful bouquet of blue fruits, blackcurrants, spice box, flowers and a hint of mocha. More concentrated than either the Cabernet Franc or basic Cabernet Sauvignon, it possesses attractive elegance, medium to full body and a long finish. Still young and promising, it should be even better in 3-4 years and last for 12-15 years. – By Robert M. Parker, Jr.   – Wine Advocate  10/31/2014

Chimney Rock Stag’s Leap District Cabernet Sauvignon 2012 “Tomahawk Vineyard” Estate Grown

Sale! $119.99 per Bottle …..SAVE $39 per bottle

Tomahawk Vineyard historically was part of the hunting grounds of the local Wappo Indian tribe in Napa Valley. Our Tomahawk Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon is a small group of vines from the southern end of our Estate and represents the pinnacle of the Chimney Rock estate. Planted in 2002, this vineyard has, from the beginning, stunned everyone with its intense, massively complex fruit. Every year since, regardless of difficult weather or other viticultural challenges, the wines made from the Tomahawk Vineyard have been truly world-class -compelling, multi-layered, and elegant with the lush mid-palate and lengthy finish that is the hallmark of Chimney Rock. Typically – this wine shows muscular tannins, and more red fruit characteristics.

94pts The 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Tomahawk Vineyard comes from the southern edge of the estate. The color is a saturated ruby/purple. The wine possesses juicy, intense, pure, well-etched blackcurrant and black cherry fruit intermixed with underlying rocky minerality. This opulent, full-bodied 2012 is among the most concentrated and broadly textured of Chimney Rock’s 2012s. A beauty, it can be drunk early in life or cellared for 15 or more. – By Robert M. Amarone! From the Finest Veneto Producer Masi Agricola

    A little history………

MASI AMARONES AND RECIOTOS: PREMIUM WINES IN A MODERN STYLE BUT DEEPLY ROOTED IN TRADITION Masi Agricola exclusively produces wines of the top quality level. A specialist in producing Amarones and Reciotos using historic winemaking techniques, Masi is the leading Amarone producer, with 5 Amarones that account for 20% of total production in the Veneto. Made predominantly from indigenous grape varieties, the wines are crafted with a combination of the traditional appassimento method (drying the grapes), double fermentation using semi-dried grapes and modern vinification techniques. The blend of winemaking methods enhances the personality of each wine while maintaining a recognizable Venetian style.

The name Masi comes from “Vaio dei Masi,” the little valley purchased by the Boscaini family in the late 18th Century. Carefully considered purchases in the best wine growing areas of the Veneto were made over the years. Rooted in the Veneto’s history and tradition, Masi Agricola also manages the most historic estate in Valpolicella, which once belonged to descendants of the legendary 14th Century poet Dante, the noble Serego Alighieri family.

    Costasera Amarone della Valpolicella Classico

DOCG Costasera’s slopes face the sunset, making this the best terroir for producing high-quality Amarone in Valpolicella Classico. With a longer day, vines that face Lake Garda bask in reflected light, receiving more sunlight, with soft breezes. Since the 1960s, Masi experts have confirmed the superiority of west-facing sites. To produce this unique Amarone, Masi combines ancient varieties (Corvina, Rondinella and Molinara) and winemaking methods (vinifying grapes semi-dried on racks for 3-4 months) with the latest techniques: bamboo racks in temperature- and humidity-controlled conditions induce natural drying; selective exposure to botrytis cinerea (‘noble rot’); strictly-controlled fermentations through the use of Saccharomyces bayanus, a rare yeast that produces high alcohol.

This deep ruby-red wine has powerful, complex aromas of dried plums and balsamic (anise, fennel, mint) traces. Quite dry (not sweet) on the palate, soft and with bright acidity, the wine shows flavors of baked cherry, chocolate and cinnamon. Structured but noble, delicate tannins precede a long finish.

    2010 $295.00 a six pack case $48.99/btl

Serego Alighieri Vaio Armaron Amarone della Valpolicella Classico

DOCG The term Amarone probably comes from this old, venerated vineyard named Vaio Armaron. Located in Gargagnago, within the commune of Sant’Ambrogio di Valpolicella, this is part of the property owned by the family of Conti Serego Alighieri.

This deep red wine has a viscous texture. Extremely rich aromas include baked fruit and the soft spices of cinnamon and vanilla. Rich, full and hefty on the palate, the wine displays layered sweet, cooked fruit, almonds, coffee and cocoa powder. Plush flavors long, soft and dry finish.

    2007 $380.00 a six pack case $63.99/btl

Campolongo di Torbe Amarone della Valpolicella Classico

The historic Campolongo di Torbe vineyard has been renowned for quality since the 12th Century, and its wine is the most elegant of Masi’s cru wines. Production is extremely limited and made only in the best years.

This deep ruby-red wine has alluringly fruity and sweet aromas, with notes of raisins, cocoa, vanilla, cherries, spices and fruits preserved in spirits. Full-bodied and powerful, sweet flavors are harmonious and concentrated, with warm nuances and a long, seductive finish.

    2007 $599.99 a six pack case $99.99/btl
